Bird
WILD BABY BIRDS occasionally fall out of their nests. When they do, we try to raise them to adulthood and independence. We believe this little fellow (or girl) is a Brewer's Blackbird. After about seven weeks with us, it was willing to return to the wild. We still see it occasionally, and it appears to be doing well. Baby starlings and scrub jays -- and even a pigeon -- have survived our efforts. The challenge is to try and prevent them from becoming too tame. Even after release, they often return and land on our arms, shoulders, and heads... except for the pigeon. Once we stopped feeding it, it ignored us, although it continues to hang around our property.
